FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Wemindji, Qc – June 30th, 2025 – Members of the Eeyou Eenou Police Force of the Wemindji detachment executed three drug search warrants, granted after months of investigations. These warrants allowed the search of one dwelling and two vehicles.

In the early morning of June 29, 2025 at approximately 1:30 a.m., EEPF intercepted a silver Kia Sorento on Peter Atsynia street. Our officers uncovered and seized substances alleged to be cocaine, including packaging material, digital scales, Canadian currency and other paraphernalia evidence related to drug trafficking offences. The approximate street value of the substances seized is of $1000.

Two individuals were transported to the Wemindji police detachment where they were held in police custody during the search and later released with a Promise to Appear for court scheduled in September 2025.

The two suspects, male (45) and female (39) are facing charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Substances under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The enforcement of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act can lead to facing charges, regardless of the amount seized. Each drug operation is a step towards a safer and healthier nation. Eeyou Eenou Police Force would like to thank the community for providing information that helped in this operation.
